Part of the community

From the moment Harrington Earl opened their doors more than 15 years ago, Steve Earl has always made a point of getting involved with the local community, but certainly not in any “token” way. As Steve says, "It's all about getting genuinely involved with the community and giving back in a meaningful way", and there is plenty to highlight Steve's philosophy when it comes to being "hands on".

For many years now, Steve has had strong connections to the Fitzroy Football Club, both at a Junior and Senior level. After initially getting involved, Steve has served on the Board of the club, coached at a junior level as well as having been the driving force to establish the club's unique and successful Junior Development program.

Through his position as President of Fitzroy Rotary, in conjunction with the Victorian Ministry of Housing, Steve has forged links with the residents of the local Housing Commission high rise flats which has seen some wonderful initiative created. In particular, Steve is most proud of the Sudanese Basketball Team that was started several years ago and has benefitted many disadvantaged youth who might otherwise have been 'lost' if not for the unity and support of playing in the team.

The pensioners and residents annual Xmas party at the high rise flats is another event that Steve is proud to be involved with. Reflecting on Harrington Earl's community involvement Steve concludes, "Any company can simply donate money and leave it at that, but I believe the most valuable contribution you can make is really get involved and actually do something tangible."
